Markup Patterns That Communicate Clearly
- Arrow + label. Point at the thing, then say what it is. Two-second comprehension.
- Numbered circles when you have multiple steps. Pair with a numbered list outside the image.
- Rectangles for grouping or highlighting an area without obscuring it.
- Bright contrasting color. Red works on most photos and screenshots. Avoid colors that already appear heavily in the image.
- Don't overdo it. Three or four annotations is usually plenty. More than that and the image becomes the puzzle, not the answer.
Annotate — FAQ
Can I edit annotations after adding them?
Yes. Click any annotation to select it, then drag to move, use the corner handles to resize or rotate, or change the color. Double-click text to edit characters.
Can I undo?
Use Delete to remove the selected annotation. Clear All resets every annotation. The full editor offers full undo history.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Annotations happen in your browser only.
